Privacy

Don’t Go Far uses a small amount of information to choose local stories, remember your walks, and improve the experience.

Information we handle

  • Account: your email and account identifiers if you choose to create an account.
  • Area and location: a city, ZIP code, map choice, or device location when you ask us to find stories near you.
  • Walk activity: story progress, timer actions, completion history, reactions, and feedback you submit.
  • Reminders: a device push token, preferred reminder time, time zone, and limited device information if you enable notifications.
  • Friend links: which account or anonymous app user created a story link, whether the share sheet and link were opened, and whether a recipient accepted, started, or completed that story. We do not receive your contacts, chosen messaging app, message contents, or confirmation that a message was delivered.
  • Technical data: cookies, basic request information, and website usage measurements when analytics are enabled.

How location works

Location permission is optional and requested only when a nearby feature needs it. For area selection, coordinates are used to determine a supported area; the saved profile contains the resulting area rather than those coordinates. Location-hunt features may use changing distance and accuracy measurements to run the hunt and record coarse distance or accuracy bands, not a route map.

You can choose a city, ZIP code, or map point instead of allowing device location for area selection. Device settings control permission at any time.

Why we use information

We use it to operate the app, preserve state and history, select relevant stories, provide reminders you request, prevent abuse, fix problems, understand whether walks are useful, and answer support messages. We do not sell personal information.

Friend links use a random opaque code instead of visible advertising or sender parameters. The public message does not include your name or account ID. Internal reporting uses a pseudonymous creator reference and does not show recipient identity.

Service providers

Hosting, database and authentication, analytics, maps, notifications, and email providers may process limited information for us. Their handling is governed by their own terms and our service arrangements. A map or source link can also open a third-party service.

Retention and choices

We keep information only as long as reasonably needed to provide and improve the service, meet legal obligations, and resolve disputes. You can decline location and notifications through device settings. You may ask to access or delete information associated with you by emailing us.

Children and changes

Don’t Go Far is not directed to children under 13. We may update this notice as the beta changes and will revise the date above when we do.
